Arnaldo Deane is a printmaker and illustrator who creates art that reflects the world as he sees it and as he hopes it could be. Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts at The University of Texas at San Antonio, he initially trained and pursued a career in graphic design before discovering his true artistic purpose. Over the past ten years, he struggled to find direction until he was inspired by a desire for imagery that instills hope and inspiration.
Deane resonated deeply with the work of Stanisław Szukalski, an artist who created idealistic images and sought wisdom in the symbols of ancient and tribal cultures. Szukalski’s unique illustrative style, known as Bent Classicism, incorporated pre-Columbian aesthetics and helped shape Deane’s artistic vision. Influenced by Mesoamerican art, his Puerto Rican heritage, and Szukalski’s philosophy, Deane’s work explores themes of identity, perseverance, and human connection.
He creates serigraph pieces and lithographs, using these printmaking techniques to enhance the expressive qualities of his work. His shading conveys depth and power, his line work flows with dynamic energy, and his compositions captivate with striking drama, while his lithographs allow his distinctive voice and emotions to emerge through the medium. Through expressive mark-making and carefully composed moments, he invites viewers to reflect, interpret, and find meaning in the details.
Now beginning to enter shows and competitions, Deane is eager to share his work with the world. He might not have the answers, but he hopes his art fosters pride in one’s fellow man offering a counterbalance to the weight of cynicism and despair so often found in the world today.
